HistoryCelebrating Radiothon
CRC opened in September 1981 as part of a $23 million south campus dormitory and South Mid-Quads. A $2 million gift from the Sherman Fairchild Foundation of Chevy project, which included the construction of ISRC, Jones, PARC, 1835 Hinman and North Chase, Maryland (hence CRC's dual name, East Fairchild), helped provide equipment and finance other expenses for CRC. Sherman Fairchild (1896-1971) was a pioneer in photography, aviation, and sound engineering. He founded Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corporation and Fairchild Engine and Airplane Corporation.

Radiothon
Radiothon is a charity event that spans 48 hours and involves continuous radio shows, parties, games, and events. It began in 1988 in honor of one of CRC’s former residents, Tech junior William G. Arnold, who passed away in his sleep due to a condition known as heart arrhythmia.
